New bakery opens: It’s a celebration!

Back to our new favorite little corner of the world my husband I went this morning! Father’s Table — Catering~Bakery~Coffee celebrated their grand opening today! And we were there for our yummy New York bagel (Really! It was made in New York and shipped here to Lynchburg!) and our FREE coffee — a grand opening special. Somehow I resisted all the yummy goodies in the cases…that was a first…I’ve gained five pounds since their soft opening on Valentine’s Day! It was really hard to resist, believe me!Okay, so I obviously need to change focus. No more bakery for me…at least until my next Monday morning date with my husband! But, that doesn’t mean you can’t go and enjoy some of these delicious creations yourself! And I recommend you do!  Don’t forget to tell them I sent you! If you do, I’ll get FREE doughnuts! Hey, I didn’t say I would eat them myself! I’ll share with my stampers!

But, I’m now going to be focusing my attentions on walking and, of course, STAMPING! I came home from the bakery and created a card for my new hero — Chef Ken Reed! Wanna see?  Here it is:

Wonder where I got my inspiration? The bakery? Partly right! I was also inspired by a CAS card posted recently by Robin Merriman. Check out Robin’s card HERE . You’ll notice that I changed up a few things to make it my own.

  • Card size is 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ with fold at top, rather than 4-1/4″ square.
  • Top layer is 4″ x 5-1/4.” It is attached with Snail to the card base.
  • I ran the top layer through the Big Shot using the Square Lattice Embossing Folder. I just love the texture these add to cards.
  • Since this card is for a man, I opted for an Early Espresso 5/8″ Satin Ribbon instead of pink.
  • I stamped my images in Early Espresso and used Stampin’ Write Markers to color them: Early Espresso, Chocolate Chip, Crumb Cake, Blushing Bride, Wild Wasabi, and Rose Red.
  • Shhh! Don’t tell anybody! But, I made a mistake. When I stamped the sentiment — which is from the Afterthoughts stamp set, a hostess exclusive — I didn’t stamp it straight. A crooked sentiment? I can’t deal! So I stamped the sentiment again, this time on a scrap of Whisper White and punched it with the Decorative Label Punch. To make it fit, I cut the punched image in half. I planned ahead and made sure the sentiment was in the top half of the punched piece. Then I just popped it up with two Stampin’ Dimensionals! When all was said and done, you’d never know I’d made a mistake, would you?

I’d love to show you the inside of the card, too, but just as I took the photo above, my camera battery died and I have no idea where the charger is! What was that Scarlet said…tomorrow is another day? I’ll find it…tomorrow!

Here’s what I did: In the bottom left-hand corner I stamped two of the cake images in Early Espresso and used my markers to color them with the same colors as on the card front. Near the top, in the center, I stamped “Best Wishes” — words only, no design element — using the stamp from the “Oval All” stamp set (a tried and true favorite) and Early Espresso Classic Ink.
